Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families have different wants and needs throughout their lifespan. However, preparing for their future in the area of living outside the family home is often left undiscussed for a variety of reason. To properly and effectively plan for someone’s future, family members and individuals need to know what options they have. An understanding of the different types of services that are offered and how to access them is a key component when it comes to successful planning. Preparation for the whole family and any other service providers involved also plays an important role during this planning process. This presentation will provide families, advocates and service providers with knowledge and options for considerations when it comes to preparing for residential placement.
