THE TRAUMA INSTITUTE OF ORANGE COUNTY DOING BUSINESS AS THE WELCOME ORANGE TRAINING INSTITUTE PRESENTS:
The Importance of Sensory Validation and How Sensory Processing Impacts Behavior and Learning
About the Program: “Sensory” has become a buzz word. Since every bit of information we receive comes in through our senses, it makes “sense” to understand how a child’s sensory processing can impact their learning and behavior. Validating a child’s sensory preferences and partnering with them to create sensory safe spaces is a vital component for success at home and at school. This presentation will discuss the 8 different sensory systems, explore what behaviors may indicate a sensory processing challenge, and present strategies to help children remain regulated throughout the day.
About the Presenter: Greg Santucci is a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and the Founding Director of Power Play Pediatric Therapy. He has been an OT for over 20 years, and currently is a Supervisor of Occupational Therapy at Children’s Specialized Hospital in NJ. Greg has been lecturing nationally for over a decade on topics related to sensory processing, challenging behaviors and best practice in the public schools. Greg is the father of two kids and is married to a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, so he shares his toys with all three of them.
