Post-School Planning for Young Adults Accessing Services Through OPWDD
Online Thursday, November 21, 6-7:30 p.m.
Join us to gather information on available employment and training program options and support services. This workshop is suitable for families of young adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, preparing for the transition to post-school life or who have recently exited school. Additional NY State and other regional postsecondary options that families can explore will be provided. Considerations will also be shared for those families who may be visiting or selecting adult community-based day programs. Additionally, tips on utilizing OPWDD’s Self-Direction services will be offered. Time will be provided for participants to ask questions.
Supported Decision-Making
Online Thursday, December 5, 6-7 p.m.
Supported Decision-Making (SDM) is a practice by which people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are able to make their own decisions with the support of trusted persons in their lives, while retaining all their legal and civil rights. Supported Decision-Making has been found by New York courts and by the New York legislature to be a less restrictive alternative to guardianship. Learn more here!
