Father’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the fathers, caregivers, and family members who help guide, support, and encourage their loved ones through every stage of life.
This year, we’re proud to share the story of Christian and his father, Harold.
At 21 years old, Christian has big goals. He wants to find employment, earn his learner’s permit, and continue building his independence. He enjoys creating content as a YouTuber, reading manga and comic books, playing video games, and exploring new places.
One thing that stands out when speaking with Christian is how important independence is to him.
“Being independent is important because if you get too much help, you may feel like you’re a burden,” Christian shared. “You gotta help yourself so you don’t have to feel that way. You got your own life.”
That mindset is something Harold has encouraged throughout Christian’s life.
When reflecting on fatherhood, Harold spoke about the joy Christian has brought to his life. He described how becoming a father gave him the opportunity to relive some of the simple joys of childhood like visiting amusement parks, riding roller coasters, and making memories together.
One of their favorite traditions is searching for new pizza places to try. They also share a love for Marvel movies, cartoons, and finding reasons to laugh together.
When asked what he admires most about his son, Harold spoke about Christian’s willingness to try new things and his honesty.
“He’ll tell you if there’s a problem,” Harold said. “And he’ll try things. He’ll get on rides I’m too scared to get on.”
For Christian, his father’s support has always been a source of comfort and encouragement.
Near the end of their conversation, Christian thanked his father for everything he has done for him.
Harold’s response was simple: “You ain’t got to thank me for that.”
It’s a moment that captures what so many parents feel: That caring for and supporting your child isn’t something that requires thanks. It’s an act of love.
As Christian continues pursuing his goals and building the future he wants, he is supported not only by his family, but by a network of people who believe in his potential and encourage him to keep moving forward.
Their story is a reminder that independence doesn’t mean doing everything alone. It means having people who believe in you, encourage you, and help you discover what you’re capable of achieving.
This Father’s Day, we celebrate fathers like Harold and families like theirs who continue to inspire us every day.
Happy Father’s Day from all of us at ACANY and LIFEPlan CCO!
